Assistant Buyer

The job role of the Assistant Buyer also sits within the fashion and retail environment and their main responsibility is to help the fashion/retail department deliver a profitable range whether the product range is luxury, high street or value and can be across womenswear, menswear, childrenswear, fashion accessories, footwear, lingerie or homeware. As an Assistant Buyer you will need to manage the Buyers Admin Assistant, making sure that the critical path is running smoothly, to build close relationships with your suppliers, as well as the fashion brand's Merchandisers and Designers.

This job in fashion involves working under the direction of the Fashion /Retail Buyer: you will assist with budget and margin targets, fashion range planning and building, reviewing weekly sales, with a focus on the best and worst sellers, monitoring the fashion market and customer activity. This can be achieved via competitive shops, sales and trend analysis. Depending on the fashion/ retail company an Assistant Buyer attends and conducts fit sessions and is involved in product development.

The Assistant Buyer will also attended and contribute to the Monday morning buying meeting. Reviewing the previous week's sales, best and worst sellers for the buying department, this meeting is attended by Junior Buyers, Buyers and Senior Buyers from all fashion/retail departments and also the Buying Directors.
