Design Manager / Director

To get a job in fashion or retail as a fashion Design Manager / Design Director you will have progressed through the levels of Fashion Design Assistant, Junior / Assistant Fashion Designer, Designer and Senior Fashion Designer and so will then be eligible for promotion to a Fashion Design Manager / Director level.

As Fashion Design Manager / Director you will largely be managing a team of Designers, where Senior Designers are often a direct report. Some Design Managers / Directors however, depending on the size of the fashion / retail company and often in smaller firms, are still involved with some hands on designing whether this is for womenswear, menswear, childrenswear, fashion accessories, footwear, or lingerie.

Fashion Design Managers / Directors are responsible for giving design direction for the fashion season, attending overseas sourcing trips, and training and managing a team of fashion Designers.
