Getting Started

Where do I get my timesheet?

Your timesheets are completed online through Timesheet Portal.

Before your assignment starts, you’ll receive a welcome email with your login details and information on how to access the portal. We’ve also provided a simple user guide to help you get started.

Tip: If you haven’t received your Timesheet Portal login before your assignment is due to start, please contact your Temp Consultant.

Timesheets & Pay

When should I submit my timesheet?

Please complete and submit your timesheet for approval at the end of your final shift each week.

Timesheets are processed on Monday morning, so your timesheet needs to be approved before the 10am Monday deadline to be included in that week’s payroll.

If you finish your working week on a Friday, we recommend submitting your timesheet on Friday or over the weekend rather than waiting until Monday morning.

Important: Timesheets approved after 10am Monday may miss that week’s payroll and be paid the following week.

Who approves my timesheet?

Your timesheet must be approved by the appropriate manager at the company where you’re working. Please make sure you submit it in plenty of time for them to review and approve it before the Monday 10am deadline.

When will I get paid?

We run payroll weekly.

Provided your timesheet has been correctly submitted and approved by the 10am Monday deadline, your payment will normally reach your bank account by Friday of that week.

How do I get paid?

All temporary workers are paid through PAYE (Pay As You Earn).

This means you’re paid through Fashion Personnel’s payroll, with Income Tax and National Insurance deducted from your pay where applicable, in the same way as other PAYE employment.

Before you start working, you’ll need to complete the required payment and starter forms we send to you.

Tip: Use our Temp Salary Calculator to estimate your take-home pay.

What if I forget to submit my timesheet?

Don’t panic. Contact your Temp Consultant as soon as possible.

However, submitting your timesheet late can mean that your payment misses the weekly payroll and is processed in the following week’s pay run. That’s why we strongly recommend submitting your timesheet at the end of your final shift each week.

What if I think I’ve been paid incorrectly?

If you think there is an error with your pay, please contact accounts by responding to your payslip email as soon as possible so we can look into it for you.

It is helpful to have your payslip and timesheet to hand when getting in touch.

Tax & Pension

I think I’m paying too much tax. What should I do?

Your tax is calculated using the tax code provided to us by HMRC.

If you’ve completed your HMRC Starter Checklist correctly but believe your tax code is incorrect, you’ll need to contact HMRC directly. We cannot change your tax code or provide personal tax advice without HMRC notifying us of a change.

If HMRC changes your tax code, they will notify us and we can update your payroll accordingly.

It’s also quite common for temporary workers to be due a tax refund, particularly if they’ve changed jobs during the tax year or previously overpaid tax. Where HMRC instructs us to make a refund through payroll, we’ll process this for you.

Will I be enrolled into a pension?

If you’re eligible, you’ll be automatically enrolled into our workplace pension scheme in accordance with the Pensions Act 2008.

We’ll provide you with information about the pension scheme when you join.

If you have questions about your pension or eligibility, please contact your Temp Consultant.

While You’re Temping

Can I job search while I’m temping?

Absolutely! We understand that many of our temps are looking for their next permanent opportunity while completing a temporary assignment.

You can attend interviews during your assignment, but please be considerate of your current employer. Let your line manager and Temp Consultant know if you need to start later, finish earlier or take time away from work for an interview.

Always remain professional. Your current client may even be considering hiring you permanently!

Our Permanent Recruitment team will also continue to keep you updated about relevant permanent opportunities.

Tip: Brushing up before an interview? See our Interview Tips.

I need time off during my assignment. What should I do?

Please speak to your line manager and your Temp Consultant as early as possible if you need to request time off.

Temporary assignments can have specific requirements around attendance, so it’s always best to agree any planned absence in advance.

I’m ill and can’t come to work. Who do I tell?

If you’re unable to attend work because you’re unwell, please follow your client’s normal absence reporting process and let your Temp Consultant know as soon as possible.

If you know you’re going to be absent before your shift starts, please don’t wait until later in the day to let us know.

What if I’m running late?

Contact your line manager at the client as soon as possible and let your Temp Consultant know.

We understand that things happen, but keeping everyone informed is important and helps us maintain a good relationship with our clients.

I have a problem at work. Who should I speak to?

Your first point of contact will usually be your line manager at the company where you’re working.

If you’re uncomfortable raising an issue with them, or you’d like to discuss something confidentially, your Fashion Personnel Temp Consultant is here to support you.

Finding a Permanent Role

I’ve found a permanent job while temping. What should I do?

Congratulations!

Please let your Temp Consultant know as soon as possible. Keeping us informed means we can support you through the transition and, where necessary, give the client enough time to plan for your departure.

There is no fixed notice period for your temporary assignment, but wherever possible we recommend giving one week’s notice. This gives you time to hand over your work and leave your assignment on a positive and professional note.

I love where I’m working. Can I apply for a permanent role there?

Absolutely.

If you see a permanent role advertised at the company you’re temping for, whether it’s your current role or another opportunity, let your Fashion Personnel Temp Consultant know.

If a manager at the company approaches you directly about a permanent opportunity, you’re welcome to discuss it and attend an interview. We simply ask that you keep us informed throughout the process.

We want to help you find the right opportunity, whether that’s through us or with a company you’ve met through a temporary assignment.

Tip: Worth updating your CV first — see our CV advice.

Will you still send me permanent opportunities?

Yes. If you’re registered with both our Temp and Permanent teams, we’ll continue to keep you informed about permanent opportunities that match your experience and career goals.

Tip: You can also browse live vacancies any time on our Jobs page.

Understanding Your Assignment

What happens when my temporary assignment ends?

If you’d like to continue temping, we’ll keep you in mind for future assignments and contact you when suitable opportunities become available.

If you haven’t worked through us for a few weeks, we’ll arrange payment of any outstanding holiday pay and issue your P45 where applicable.

Don’t worry, this doesn’t mean you’re no longer registered with us. If a suitable assignment comes up in the future, we can get you back to work quickly.

Can I come back and temp again after my assignment ends?

Of course!

We’d love to work with you again. Keep your Temp Consultant updated on your availability and we’ll contact you when suitable assignments become available.

What should I wear to my first day?

Your dress code will usually be confirmed by your Temp Consultant or the client before your assignment starts.

If you’re unsure, it’s always better to arrive slightly more smartly dressed on your first day. Fashion environments can vary from corporate head offices and showrooms to retail, studios and warehouses, so dress appropriately for the role and the environment you’ll be working in.

If you’re unsure about what to wear, just ask your Temp Consultant before your first day. We’re happy to advise.

What time should I arrive?

Your working hours and start time will be confirmed before your assignment begins.

For your first day, we recommend arriving 10–15 minutes early so you have time to find the building, reception and the person you’re meeting without feeling rushed.

If you’re going to be late for any reason, please contact your client as soon as possible and let your Temp Consultant know.

Who do I ask for when I arrive?

Your Temp Consultant will let you know who to ask for and where to go before your first day.

Usually, you’ll report to reception and give them the name of your contact or manager.

If you’re unsure who you’re meeting or where you’re supposed to go, don’t worry — just contact your Temp Consultant before you arrive and we’ll make sure you have the information you need.

What should I do if my assignment is extended?

That’s great news!

Your Temp Consultant will confirm the extension with you and make sure we have the updated dates and any changes to your assignment recorded.

If the client tells you directly that they’d like to extend your assignment, please let your Temp Consultant know so we can confirm everything with the client and update your records.

Can I accept additional shifts?

If your client offers you additional shifts or asks you to work on days outside your agreed schedule, please let your Temp Consultant know so we can make sure the additional hours or days are approved and recorded correctly.

If you’re looking for additional work, you can also let your Temp Consultant know. We’ll always be happy to discuss other suitable assignments with you.

How do breaks work?

Your breaks will depend on your working hours and the arrangements at the client you’re working for.

Your client should explain their usual break arrangements when you start your assignment. Please follow their workplace policies and speak to your manager if you’re unsure when you should take a break.

If you have any questions about your breaks or working hours, your Temp Consultant can help.

Do I get holiday pay?

Yes. As a PAYE temporary worker, you are entitled to statutory paid holiday in accordance with UK employment legislation.

Your holiday entitlement and how your holiday pay is calculated will depend on your circumstances and the hours you work.

If you have questions about your holiday entitlement, holiday pay or how to request time off, please speak to your Temp Consultant.

What happens with bank holidays?

Bank holidays are treated in line with your holiday entitlement and the arrangements for your assignment.

If your client is closed on a bank holiday, this doesn’t automatically mean that you will be paid for the day. Your entitlement to holiday pay will depend on your individual circumstances and the applicable rules.

If you’re unsure whether you should work on a bank holiday or how it will affect your holiday entitlement, please check with your Temp Consultant before the day.

Can I work at different Fashion Personnel clients?

Yes, depending on your availability and the requirements of your assignments.

We work with a wide range of fashion, retail, beauty and lifestyle clients, so there may be opportunities to work with more than one client over time.

Just keep your Temp Consultant updated on your availability and let us know if you’re looking for additional work between assignments.

Can’t find what you’re looking for?

Your Temp Consultant is your first point of contact. We’re here to help with anything from timesheets and pay to your assignment, availability or next career move.
