The job role of a Fashion or Retail Merchandising Manager / Head of Merchandising is ultimately to support, lead, manage and motivate individual merchandising teams within a fashion retail merchandising head office. Depending on the size of the retail organisation a Merchandising Manager / Head of Merchandising could be responsible for merchandising teams across just one fashion area i.e. womenswear, menswear, childrenswear, footwear or accessories. However within a smaller fashion retailer this could role could incorporate a broad range of fashion areas.
As a Merchandising Manager / Head of Merchandising you will be working alongside your fashion merchandising teams to ensure that commercial, yet profitable fashion product ranges are developed and bought in order to maximise profit and sales. The Merchandising Manager / Head of Merchandising will ensure that the teams are all working in conjunction with the merchandising strategy, the needs of the customer and the ultimate direction of the company.
Although responsible for the overall management of the merchandising teams the Merchandising Manager / Head of Merchandising will have come from a strong Senior Merchandising position within fashion retail and will possess the skills and qualities that a strong Merchandiser will require. These include being numerical, analytical and also commercial.
